“Mental health is a lot more than the absence of illness: it is an intrinsic part of our individual and collective health and well-being… Ultimately, there is no health without mental health.”
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
Director-General of the World Health Organization
At TCHGroup, we recognize the pivotal role of wellness in the workplace. With 14.7% of individuals encountering mental health issues in their professional environments (Mental Health Foundation) and 37% of employees attributing serious mental health challenges to work-related stress (HeadSpace), it's clear that fostering well-being is not just beneficial—it’s essential.
While the term "mental health" may have become somewhat of a corporate buzzword, at TCHGroup, our commitment goes beyond a tick-box exercise. For us, it’s just the right thing to do for our colleagues, whom we consider family.
TCHGroup is proud of our Wellbeing Programme, spearheaded by Abigail Holley, Head of Employee Wellbeing. This initiative has been designed around the four pillars of human wellness: mental, physical, financial, and social well-being.
Pillar 1 Mental - A Safe Space for Open Conversations
This year we launched ‘A Cuppa with Abii’. The concept behind this is simple yet profoundly impactful. We understand that the challenges our employees face can stem from both their professional and personal lives. To address this, we have created a designated safe space where staff can freely share their concerns, struggles, and experiences. By setting aside dedicated time slots every afternoon from 2-4 pm, we ensure that every employee has the opportunity to book a session that fits seamlessly into their work schedule should they need it.
This programme is not just about discussing challenges; it’s about building a stronger, more cohesive community within our organization. It’s about providing a shoulder to lean on and an empathetic ear to listen. Our goal is for every team member to leave these sessions feeling lighter, more understood, and ultimately, better equipped to tackle their challenges head-on.
Pillar 2 Physical - Building a Foundation of Health
As part of our partnership with the Ospreys we’ve embedded physical wellness into our workplace including:
We also offer free fresh fruit and gym memberships, pairing up with local providers to contribute to healthy lifestyle choices.
Pillar 3 Financial - Ensuring Security and Stability
According to Financial Capability, 39% of adults in the UK (20.3 million) don’t feel confident managing their money. Money and sadly debt is a root cause of stress for many people in the UK, which negatively impacts their mental health. We want every employee at TCHGroup to have financial freedom, so we’ve paired up with Richard Hullin who provides mortgage advice to our employees.
Richard is there to provide them with advice that makes their money work for them.
Pillar 4 Social - Fostering a Culture of Care and Authenticity
Community is critical to our ethos at TCH, we truly believe that the only way to thrive as an individual is to feel part of a welcoming and productive community. According to HeadSpace, 53% of employees say that work has helped them find a community of people with similar backgrounds or lived experiences.
Under our People Empowerment Programme, we have created groups for different communities from LGBT+ to Racial Diversity Networks. These employee-led initiatives allow individuals to find their community, connect, and drive meaningful change.
We want to create a positive, nurturing, and inclusive work environment. We believe that by fostering a sense of safety and encouraging authenticity, we pave the way for individuals to fully express themselves. This, in turn, cultivates a culture where unique ideas and perspectives are not only welcomed but celebrated for the value they add to our collective success.
At TCHGroup, we believe that fostering mental well-being is not just a responsibility—it’s a necessity for creating thriving workplaces. Our commitment to the four pillars of wellness—mental, physical, financial, and social—ensures our employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
